Our Bredasdorp Branch
About Us
Nestled in the picturesque farming region of Bredasdorp, our society has been dedicated to animal welfare since February 1989. With a committed team of volunteers, dedicated committee members, and two inspectors, we play a vital role in the community.
Our service area includes Bredasdorp, Napier, Elim, Wolvengat, Struisbaai, Cape Agulhas, Arniston, Klipdale, Protem, and surrounding rural regions. As the only veterinary practice in the area is located in Bredasdorp, our inspectors often travel long distances to reach animals in need. When necessary, animals requiring medical attention are transported to the veterinary hospital in Bredasdorp for diagnosis and treatment.
What We Do
Each month, our society provides a wide range of services to protect and care for animals in our community. Our work includes investigating livestock concerns, rescuing and housing stray companion animals, assisting with the removal of female dogs in heat, and treating conditions such as mange, injuries, and other medical issues.
We also care for wildlife and marine life, including gannets and penguins, stabilizing them before transferring them to specialized care facilities in Cape Town. Cases of cruelty and neglect are thoroughly investigated, with appropriate action taken to ensure animal welfare.
One of our most rewarding roles is facilitating adoptions—finding loving, forever homes for the animals in our care. This is just one of the many ways AACL Bredasdorp makes a difference in the lives of animals and the community.
Owners are educated about the importance of responsible pet ownership and the importance of sterilisation.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR VALUED SUPPORT!
Our Fundraising Efforts
We host various fundraisers throughout the year to support our cause. One of our biggest events is the annual Blikskud in Struisbaai, where some of our volunteers dress up and spend the day collecting donations from the public.
We run a White Elephant Table, offering donated household items, kitchenware, clothing, blankets, and more for sale every 2nd month.
During the busy holiday seasons, supermarkets like Checkers generously provide trolleys for the public to fill with dog and cat food. These donations help us carry out food runs in rural areas as often as possible.
We also hold Book Sales in Napier at Moerse Padstal every last Saturday of every month, giving book lovers a chance to support our work while picking up some great reads.
Thank you for helping us make a difference!
Educating the Next Generation
We believe that education is key to creating a more compassionate future for animals. That’s why we conduct educational talks at schools, typically once a year, to teach children about responsible pet care and the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect.
These sessions cover essential topics such as proper feeding, shelter, veterinary care, and the responsibility that comes with having a pet. We also emphasize why animal abuse is never acceptable and how children can play a role in preventing cruelty—whether by speaking up when they see neglect or simply showing love and care to the animals in their lives.
By instilling these values at a young age, we hope to foster a generation that understands the importance of animal welfare and works toward a future where all pets are treated with the care and dignity they deserve.
Supporting Pets in Underprivileged Communities
Many families in rural and underprivileged communities struggle to provide consistent nutrition and healthcare for their pets. To help, we conduct regular pet food runs, delivering much-needed dog and cat food to these areas. Thanks to generous public donations and supermarket collection drives, we ensure that pets in need don’t go hungry.
In addition to food distribution, we prioritize deworming efforts. Parasitic infections are common in animals without access to regular veterinary care, leading to malnutrition, discomfort, and serious health issues. By providing deworming treatments during our food runs, we help improve the overall well-being of these animals, reducing the spread of parasites and promoting healthier communities.
Through these initiatives, we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of both pets and their owners, ensuring that every animal receives the care and nourishment they deserve—no matter their circumstances.
