Welcome to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League
The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), has been caring for and protecting animals since 1956. It is one of South Africa’s largest independent Animal Welfare Organizations, relying entirely on the generosity and goodwill of the animal-loving public for financial support.
We are an organization that gets involved in all aspects of animal welfare: provide shelter for abandoned animals, promote an efficient adoption programme, investigating and prosecute animal cruelty cases, run welfare hospitals for lower income groups, visit underprivileged areas with fully equipped mobile clinics and regularly address schools and clubs on the challenges of animal welfare.
The Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 000-560), a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930006842). The AACL-JHB has a Level 4 B-BBEE status.
We are reliant on the financial support of the animal loving public who assist us through donations, sponsorships and bequests. Donation in cash and in kind are tax deductible in terms of Section 18A of the Income Tax Act and as a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930006842) we will issue a Section 18A Tax Certificate to bona fide taxpayers who qualify for this deduction.

Kennel Services:
The AACL JHB can accommodate 300 companion animals and provides shelter for unwanted, stray and abandoned animals.
These animals are provided for by our kennel staff and offer water, nutritious food, shelter and access to veterinary care. AACL JHB relies on its dedicated staff who work tirelessly 365 days a year to care for unwanted, abandoned and abused animals.
Shelters
The AACL JHB provides shelter for many dogs and cats. Pets in our care are mostly strays and animals given up for adoption. We also have confiscated animals, which once signed over or released to ourselves, have new homes found for them.
Adoptions
All possible attempts are made to find suitable homes for the hundreds of dogs and cats in our care, awaiting adoption. Efforts are made to match potential new owners to a suitable new pet, as well as ensuring that the new homes are suitable for the pet’s requirements. Before any animal in our care is released to a new home, the prospective home is inspected to ensure that it meets with our adoption requirements.
