As essential services AACL-JHB has been open since lockdown started at the end March 2020.  As with many organisations over these past months we have adjusted, revised and changed the way we do business to best service the ever-increasing need for Animals Welfare services in Johannesburg.  It is imperative we comply with Government regulations, with the safety of our clients, staff and ultimately the animals in our care always first on our minds. Our Veterinary Hospital has seen a huge increase in new clients, with our kennels continuing to receive stray, lost and unwanted animals. AACL-JHB Inspectorate have continued to respond to calls of animal abuse and assist the community with their concerns regarding Responsible Pet Ownership.

As of Wednesday 17 June 2020, the following changes have been put in place to not only assist the community but to maintain the health and safety of our staff as they continue to assist you.

Our staff are now working on a rotational basis, with hospital consultations and visits now by appointments only and must be booked in advance.

Selected adoptions will be done by appointment only, where T’s and C’s apply.

Although pet food sales are available from our kennel office, to assist you we have launched our online pet food store where we will deliver directly to your home, the shop can be accessed through our website:

Our charity shop will be open until further notice on Tuesday and Thursday between 13:00- 14:00pm only.

Your continued support through donations of pet food, blankets for the animals and items for the charity shop will always be welcomed, all we ask is to please contact us prior to dropping off, so we can prepare.

Access to our premises has changed:

  • All access to our premises will be by APPOINTMENT ONLY.
  • All members of the public must complete COVID19 relevant questions and information before entry and possibly have their temperature taken.
  • No Mask or suitable face covering – NO ENTRY
  • No hand sanitization – NO ENTRY
  • Only one person is allowed in the hospital with your pet
  • People are to stay in their car until called so as to practice social distancing
  • No children allowed on site (unless with adoption with T’s and C’s)

Should you be COVID19 positive or suspect you are, and require treatment for your pet in an emergency, please let us know when you call, as we have special processes in place to assist you.

At AACL-JHB we will always welcome feedback on our services to you the public and we sincerely appreciate the support and love that our valued supporters continue to give. We do not however, appreciate the unfair criticism and abuse some of our staff have received recently. The community needs to understand that we have had to adapt the way we work as a result of the National State of Disaster and the changes we have put into place are to keep you and our staff safe, whilst we continue to service the community.
