Bredasdorp NPO 011-315

The picturesque farming area of Bredasdorp, has been home to this society, since the 25th February 1989. With just a few volunteers and one lady inspector, Leonora du Plessis, this society fulfils a very important and meaningful role to localized communities.

In a typical month in Bredasdorp, services rendered by the society can range from cattle and poultry problems being investigated, to collection and housing of strays, removing bitches on heat and subsequent kennelling, treatment of mange and other conditions, issuing letters which recommend sterilization and inoculations, investigating cruelty and neglect, and the most important task of re-homing animals. Dipping services are rendered on Saturday mornings by the team, starting each year in the month of October, and continuing through to the cooler month of May the following year. Animals are also checked for health problems at the same time and  de-worming pills and ointments for sore eyes and ears are dispensed to owners. Cases of mange are also treated.

Any serious cases of disease, etc., are referred to the local veterinarians for treatment. Spay days take place approximately every three months, and other surgical procedures are carried out by  the local vets, on an ongoing basis. A group pf volunteers from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League committee, help to nurse the animals back to health until they are ready to be taken home again. On average, between 20 - 30 animals are sterilized on spay days. Locals bring their pets for dipping >>
